MICHAEL MURPHY
AAIC, P.App., P.Ag.
Senior Appraiser
Expertise: Agricultural, industrial, and Crown land appraisals; Indigenous consultation; expropriation and right-of-way valuations
Michael joined Harrison Bowker in 2026 and brings over 20 years of experience in real property valuation and agrology across Western Canada. He holds a BSc in Agriculture and a BSc in Forestry from the University of Alberta, his Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI, P.App.) designation from the Appraisal Institute of Canada, and his Professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) designation from the Alberta Institute of Agrologists — a combination that gives him a rare perspective when valuing complex agricultural and natural resource properties.
His career spans the public and private sectors, including a decade with Alberta Infrastructure where he served as a Property Agent and Indigenous Consultation Coordinator, developing policy, advising on land rights and acquiring and disposing of land and right of way. He has since applied that depth of experience, leading land acquisition projects, specific claims valuations, and right-of-way work across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and British Columbia. Michael is equally comfortable in the field and in the courtroom, having provided litigation support on matters involving injurious affectation, loss of use, and expropriation under both the Expropriation Act and the Alberta Surface Rights Act.
